The Bartlett Family Adventure

The Bartlett Family Adventure is all about the moments that take my breath away as I grow in the glory of God, and live my life to the best of my ability while raising two rowdy boys. This blog is not just about me, it also includes stories of my family's daily adventures. We home school our boys, are trying to grow our fruits and vegetables, we are all on a journey to God, we are trying to live sustainably, and most importantly love the life we lead. Sometimes we stumble, but mostly I like to think we prevail. I am blogging to keep a sort of shared journal. Our life may be messy but it is perfect.

26. Something you did

This year I am making the boys library bags for Easter Baskets. I am going to tell you a secret. Lean in close. I find the little cute Easter Basket a total waste of space and money. I mean what can you do with it after Easter? Nothing. So I like to give the boys practical storage for Easter. Also I think Easter Egg Hunts are dumb. I just don't understand what eggs have to do with Christ Rising on the third day.

This is a reversible bag with a cool alien pocket on the inside.

I hope your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well my friends.

25. In your drawer

This is a drawer next to my bed. I have journals, sweet letters from the boys, and tarot cards.
I find all things supernatural fascinating but these tarot cards are not supernatural.
I bought them at a mainstream bookstore.
They are inspirational for my novel though.
It helps to know what types of things come up when you spread out the cards.
It helps make me look like I know what I am talking about when a woman lays out cards and cries out sharply. There is love and death in the air.
Also I have a fan hanging out in there just in case.

This drawer is directly below the first drawer. Notebooks, pencils, a baby name book, a back massager thing, and hey I totally meant to use that jump rope.

I hope your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well my friends.

21. Work

See this woman holding her little girl? That is my friend, the hardest working woman I have ever met. She inspires me. I have witnessed her work through tears and pain and she never complains. In this picture She is giving a tour to a group of homeschoolers, she is a rock star, steady and knowledgeable. She does not know how incredible she really is. You know what, I am proud to call her my friend.
For the record I am proud to call you my friend too, but for different reasons. You are special and unique and I would never try to change you because you are already perfect in your own way.

I hope your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well my friend.

19. A sign.

This is the sign on our front door. It is made from our grape vines and a metal sign from hobby lobby.

While I was taking the picture a bird dove at me. When I peaked behind the sign this is what I found.

I hope your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well friends.

13. Sound

This is the first song Pandora played for me today. The Thunder Rolls by Garth Brooks. Did you know it is hard to find a video for this on youtube? The second song Pandora played for me was Romeo And Juliet, Ballet in 4 Acts, Op.64 by Sergey Prokofiev. It's how I roll.
You can find Sergey Prokofiev on youtube. The whole ballet but since I gave up T.V. for lent I am sharing just the music today.

I hope that your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well my friends.

14 Tasty

Homemade Bicotti! Tasty

Well it would not be tasty with out a recipe!

Italian Biscotti

Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
3 eggs
3 cups flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup chapped nuts
1/2 tsp orange extract or orange zest

Directions
Cream butter, sugar, and eggs (add one at a time and beat well). Add other ingredients to creamed mixture. Stir in nuts and flavoring. Turn mixture onto board and knead until smooth. Shape into rolls 1 inch high and 3 inches wide. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and cut into slices. Return to oven, cut sides up, and brown another 10 minutes, or longer if you like it crunchy like me. Your call both ways are wonderful!

I know that maybe one or two of you may be vegan so if you follow this link http://www.biscottilovers.com/veganalmondbiscotti.html you'll find a vegan version.

I hope your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well my friends.

12. In the distance:

So I cheated a little here. Damian is 3, James is 7 months old, and Rob all looking out into the distance. I am looking at this picture now from a distance of time and space.
It is one of my favorites.
It reminds me everything changes
The boys are growing
Far quicker than I ever imagined
It is good to remember
I should print this out on a canvas
Hang it on the wall
Maybe
Someday

I hope your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well friends.

9. Faceless self-portrait:

Pieces of me

Floating on battered wings

Beating a broken rhythm

of the drums

Hymns played on strings

I am waiting

Listening for the song to change

I live here

in the harmony

Happiness in the melody

The Chorus repeats

repeats

Lyrics from the heart

I am the verse

Unfinished

before the rest

Floating on broken wings

The pieces of me

Undertones
By Trisha Bartlett

I hope that your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter.

7. Fear

It is the time of year where I start planning the next school year. This year for the first time I am planning two different grades. This is only part of their work I still need to pick up some workbooks for James and I am waiting on a couple of Damian's books to arrive in the mail. This is when the fear and worry starts to kick in. Am I doing it right. Oh how I wish to be an unschooler, but even though I am laid back I get freaked out if the boys seem behind in basic studies.

The note card I made for Damian says:

Be Happy
Bring Happy
Make a choice to do better

I hope that your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well my friends.

March 5

5. Under
This is the fan above my bed. I often lay in bed and stare at it in deep thought.

This is my night stand. I have books that I want to read for fun, books that I am hoping to help me do better homeschooling, books on religion. These books are not always the same but most of the time they reflect the weight I am under during the day. I am in the middle of The Great Gatsby (I think I will refrain from judgment until I finish it), I got slightly bored by The Search By Nora Roberts, it felt like I was reading an older book from her with different characters (boring. Sorry Nora but you can do better), There is the pray of the day (which I read when I feel like I need a little something that is missing), the second pile is all home school related. In case you are wondering about the picture it is one of my favorites. It always makes me smile.

I hope your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well my friends.

 Day 8
Window
This is half of one of my living room windows. This one is next to my desk.
I love that I have roses by the fence and Jasmine next to the window.
When the flowers are in bloom it smells wonderful.

I hope your week is filled with love and laughter. Be well friends.

That's right a zombie T-Shirt that I bought for my husband for Halloween a few years ago and now I wear it to sleep in. It is soft and comfortable.
