The Bartlett Family Adventure

The Bartlett Family Adventure is all about the moments that take my breath away as I grow in the glory of God, and live my life to the best of my ability while raising two rowdy boys. This blog is not just about me, it also includes stories of my family's daily adventures. We home school our boys, are trying to grow our fruits and vegetables, we are all on a journey to God, we are trying to live sustainably, and most importantly love the life we lead. Sometimes we stumble, but mostly I like to think we prevail. I am blogging to keep a sort of shared journal. Our life may be messy but it is perfect.

Random scattered things.

If you have been with me for any amount of time you know that I am random, often scattered, flighty, and mostly content being all of these things. I have embraced my own crazy. Lately my scattered braininess has been weighing heavily on me. I am almost unable to complete projects, start projects, or even worse yet stay on task. I have decided to try to straighten up a little. That means that I am going to try and focus on managing my time, and energy. I am going to take a short break from my regular scheduled blog posts. I am just not going to put so much pressure on when I post recipes, or poems. Although I love Recipe Tuesday and Poetry Thursday, it just means that maybe I won't be posting every week on those days. On the other hand maybe I will. I am just going to take some pressure off of myself.

Also I need to make a list of projects that I want to do. Most of those projects involve the sewing machine and granny squares. The truth is I need to fit projects in around school, my school, and the boys school. School needs to be a priority.

Right now I am unorganized and all of my random scattered things are affecting everything. So first thing is schedule cleaning up (ok so I need to make a schedule and follow it). The second thing is I need to stay away from Youtube. Third thing I need to stop watching so much TV. Fourth thing Make quiet time project time (this way instead of becoming one with the couch I can say spend an hour a day working on a project). Fifth thing I must schedule exercise! Six thing a load of laundry a day keeps the monsters away. Seventh thing schedule cleaning (assign chores to all members of the household, So that I am not the only one doing the cleaning.) These are my new goals. I am sure that I will become regular on the old blog no later than next month.

I hope your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well my friends.

Poetry Thursday

Today I knew what poem I wanted to post for you but Youtube only had a couple of poorly read versions. It is a short poem so I am just going to post the poem itself.

Eternity
William Blake

He who binds to himself a joy
Does the winged life destroy;
But he who kisses the joy as it flies
Lives in eternity's sun rise.

I hope your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter.

Crochet square for May?

I know that today is the day I would normally post the granny square for the month but I am behind. I hope that you will forgive me.

Here is a nice and easy square that should help me get back on schedule. If you are ready to move to May's square you will be able to. I will do a proper post as soon as I am caught up.

I hope your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well my friends.

Song of the day

Today Pandora is the DJ while I clean the house, cough, cough. Okay I am not killing myself but I did mop the floors. I think maybe I want to play more than one song for you today. I can offer you a cup of tea, a glass of wine, or whatever you have on hand that you really like. We will listen to music together and have a lovely chat. Ready or not.

There is a little game we like to play called worst case scenario (I have a feeling that most military family's play this game at one time or another.) It is not a fun game. What happens if my husband gets deployed for a year, and then gets hit with a short tour to Korea. It would be two years of separation from my favorite person. I say don't worry we own this house. We have friends. We will be okay. It would be the hardest two years ever but we will make it to the other side. He looks at me with those beautiful eyes and my heart hurts a little at the idea but I try not to show it. Because as hard as it is for me to be left waiting I know it is harder for him to be the one who leaves. Although we don't play this game very often it does come up from time to time. It is a way for both of us to reassure each other that we are okay through thick and thin. It the way it is in this life.

Frankly sometimes Pandora plays all the right songs sometimes  she cuts like a knife. Have I told you that I love Bon Jovi? Oh I do.  I do. I'll be there for you these five words I swear to you.

Tom Petty is here too. Sing along, I know you know the words. Now I am free, free fallin.

You see Pandora knows when she has gone too far. Then she plays me The Planets, Suite for Large Orchestra, Op. 32: IV. Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity. I love this song. More wine, tea, coffee, anything? So how are you doing? I am already feeling the Jollity.
I think this is a wonderful song. It is starting to lighten up the mood. See we are laughing already. Maybe we we talk about the craziest thing we ever did. For me it was getting married. You see I never really wanted to be married until I did and a month later I was. Then you know I moved across land and sea to be with him.
Now I have to warn you not only am I singing this song because I know it by heart I am dancing. So come one on your feet dance with me friend.
We dancing now! Can you mash potato. Tell me, tell me! I wanna Know.
Well now that I am all out of breath. Thanks for stopping by and visiting with me. I feel so much better.

I hope you day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well friends.

Poetry Thursday

Today is the last day of Emily Dickinson.. Thank you for following along with me. Today's poem is I'm Nobody! Who are You?

I'm Nobody! Who are you? (260)

by Emily Dickinson
I'm Nobody! Who are you?
Are you – Nobody – too?
Then there's a pair of us!
Don't tell! they'd advertise – you know!

How dreary – to be – Somebody!
How public – like a Frog –
To tell one's name – the livelong June –
To an admiring Bog!

I hope that your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well my friends.

Recipe Tuesday Squash

Today I am feeling a little under the weather today so I am going to do an easy recipe. Sauteed squash.

Yellow squash (I used 6 but I feed four people and everyone loves squash around here.)
Butter about 2-3 tablespoons or a two inch chuck out of a stick.
3 cloves of garlic (more or less to taste)
Onions are good too
salt and pepper

Slice the squash and onions. Mean while melt the butter in a pan. When the butter is melted throw all of the ingredients into the butter. Cook the squash to desired tenderness. 5-15 minutes. This makes a great side dish for chicken or if you are a vegetarian you can toss the squash with your favorite pasta and Parmesan cheese. It makes a great meal.

So I forgot to take a picture of my squash. So I borrowed this one from here. Also it has a recipe for sauteed squash minus garlic. Google any recipe and you are bound to find a million of mostly the same recipes. I have spent lots of time comparing recipes before I decide on which one to use. Even the squash I have never used a recipe for sauteed squash but still there it is waiting to be found. I hope you try the squash because it is wonderful.

I hope your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well my friends.

Poetry Thursday

Alright I normally like to mix up the poetry but it looks like this month is all Emily Dickinson. I hope you don't mind. This video starts by telling the viewer a little about Emily Dickinson. I swear to you the more I discover about the Poet the more I wonder how I got my previous assumption. This just proves that I need to be more open to things and not judge so quickly.  Today's poem is I Started Early, Took My Dog by Emily Dickinson.

I started Early – Took my Dog – (656)

By Emily Dickinson 1830–1886 Emily Dickinson

I started Early Took my Dog
And visited the Sea
The Mermaids in the Basement
Came out to look at me

And Frigates  in the Upper Floor
Extended Hempen Hands
Presuming Me to be a Mouse
Aground opon the Sands

But no Man moved Me till the Tide
Went past my simple Shoe
And past my Apron and my Belt
And past my Boddice too

And made as He would eat me up
As wholly as a Dew
Opon a Dandelion's Sleeve
And then  I started  too

I hope your day is filled with inspiration, love, and laughter. Be well my friends.
